Let’s Read with Popitha

I love stories and my children love stories. Stories in the morning, stories after lunch and stories before bedtime. Stories play such an important part in a child’s life and stories before bedtime play an even more important part of the daily routine. It indicates calm time and that’s its nearly time for their little eyes to shut very soon. It is also a very magical and special time to share with your child; A moment for the two or three of you to spend together with no interruptions, a precious gem in this extremely busy and fast moving world we live in.

Stories can come to life for children, it helps with their thought processes, and it can also serve as a teaching tool for everyday life skills and scenarios that need to be learnt or approached sensitively.

Here are 10 of our favourite stories that we regularly read together;

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Great for learning the names of food and counting with your child.

  • Farmer Duck

A fun book to learn the animal names and noises! They can even join in with the repetition which you will find they love.

  • Old Bear Tales

Just really lovely stories. I call these rainy day stories, stories for snuggling under your duvet with.

  • The Owl that is Afraid of the Dark

A book for discussing the dark – it’s really not scary when its dark!

  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

  • Elmer

Very simple stories and great for learning colours with your child.

  • Whatever Next

Fabulous for a child’s imagination – why not give them a box to sit and a colander when you read this story together. Let them feel as though they are a part of the book too!

  1. Whatever Next! was my favourite as a child. My children are almost passed the age for these books but this post has inspired to me to take a trip to the library and dig out some of these old ones!
